School Meal Nutrition Across the Nation

Are you worried that America's children are at a significant risk of being overweight? We are too. In fact, nearly 1 in 3 kids or teens in the U.S. are overweight or obese, nearly three times the number in 1963. Unfortunately, carrying extra weight as a child or teenager can pose significant health risks, both during childhood and into adulthood.

That's why it's important that we help kids build an taste for fruits, vegetables and other nutritious foods from an early age. Schools are stepping up to the plate to make sure more children have access to healthier meals. In fact, more than 99 percent of the nation's schools are meeting the nutrition standards for school lunches. While this isn't the only solution for addressing America's childhood obesity rate, it is a significant step to help us build healthier schools and communities.

Use the fact sheets below to see if your state's schools are meeting the nutrition standards and how your state's childhood obesity rate compares.
